What are the types of fiber patch cord and the corresponding colors?

Optical fiber communication technology and computer technology as the two pillars of information technology, in which the computer is responsible for digitizing information, while optical fiber is responsible for transmitting information. Optical fiber communication uses light waves as carrier waves to transmit information from A to B.

According to ITU-T standard, communication optical fiber can be divided into 7 categories: G.651, G.652, G.653, G.654, G.655, G.656 and G.657, of which G.651 is multimode fiber and G.652-G.657 is single-mode fiber. ISO/IEC divides multimode fibers into OM1-OM5. These five types of multimode fibers are mainly used in local area networks (LAN) and data centers (DCN). At present, the common types of optical fiber patch cords on the market include single-mode OS2 patch cords and multi-mode OM2/OM3/OM4 fiber patch cords. Classification of optical fiber patch cord

1. Single mode OS2 patch cord

The standard of single-mode fiber is ITU-T (G.652-G.657). Among them, G.652 is the most common type of optical fiber, mainly used in long-distance, backbone and man. The transmission wavelength of single-mode fiber (L) is generally 1310nm, and that of single-mode long-distance (LH) is 1310nm, 1490nm and 1550nm.

2. Multi mode OM1/OM2 patch cord

OM1/OM2 patch cords are the first two kinds of multi-mode patch cord. The transmission light source comes from LED diodes. The working band is 850nm. It is mainly used for short distance transmission, and the transmission rate is below 10G. The core diameter of OM1 is 62.5um, the maximum transmission distance is 300m, the core diameter of OM2 is 50um, and the maximum transmission distance is 500m.

3. Multi mode OM3/OM4 patch cord

OM3/OM4 is upgraded and optimized multimode fiber, core diameter is 50um, transmission light source comes from VCSEL laser, working band is 850nm, can support 10G/40G/100G transmission rate, for short distance transmission.

4. Multi mode OM5 patch cord

OM5 is the latest multimode fiber, which can support the ultra bandwidth transmission of 850nm-953nm wavelength, at least four wavelengths, and the transmission distance is longer than OM3 and OM4 patch cord.

Optical fiber patch cord has the advantages of high return loss, low insertion loss and excellent temperature stability. It is widely used in communication room, optical fiber to home, telecommunication network, LAN, computer optical fiber network and optical test equipment. The length of ETU-LINK patch cord can be selected freely. When we use optical fiber, we should also pay attention not to over bend and ring, to avoid increasing the loss of light in the process of transmission. When the patch cord is not in use, the dust plug must be worn to avoid abnormal connection of patch cord caused by dust on the end face of the next use.
