Due to the development potential of 100G fiber, many telecom operators have begun to implement development plans for the 100G fiber field in the United States, Japan, China and other countries . Most of the top 20 operators in the world will invest in 40G/100GWDM networks upgrade plan, in which the operators in North America and East Asia are more active in the layout of national policies and next-generation services, have been invested in the evaluation and introduction of 40G/100G related technologies, products or modules, and also drive the system operators to accelerate the layout.

With the development of broadband services, the requirements for service quality of end users are constantly improving.  Internet TV (IPTV), OTT(OverTheTop) and other video and audio streaming services need more bandwidth to ensure user experience. On the other hand, the large-scale application of cloud computing, make more business focus to the cloud room processing, a large number of storage and exchange processing requirements, make Internet data center (IDC) core router towards 10G even more high speed upgrade, driving the backbone and the metro network to develop toward greater bandwidth to determine various services can be promoted smoothly.

 

In addition, the business of enterprise dedicated line with large bandwidth is also growing rapidly, so the demand of telecom operators for 100G network is increasing rapidly. More and more other telecom operators around the world have also invested in the construction of 100G network and launched a new generation of high-speed network in the last few years.

Since the release of the 802.3ba standard of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in June 2010, the development of 40/100G has paid more attention, and the Optical Fiber Communication Exhibition (OFC) conference held in Los Angeles in March 2012, fiber optic chips, modules, system products and test vendors such as ZTE and EXFO have successively launched 40/100G technology-related products. ZTE even proposed 100G to 200G upgradeable test results through the company's patented technology; IEEE has also started to discuss 400G standard setting work.

At present, the 100G dual-polarization quaternary phase shift keying (DP-QPSK) modulation standard with coherence detection technology is adopted, which has digital signal processing capability. The 100G Linecard can provide remote real-time monitoring for the performance of optical transmission layer, and the dispersion, delay and other conditions will be reduced.In addition, through software control, transceiver can choose a specific wavelength channel to use, and in the future, there may be a software-defined network (SDN) mechanism to change the characteristics of network transmission.
