Application of 25G optical module in 5G network

When it comes to 5G, everyone is no stranger to it. It is a popular concept, but it has not yet been commercialized on a large scale. Many 5G base stations are still in the process of construction. Throughout the development history of the communication industry, the communication system has developed from the first generation to the fifth generation today, and the network capacity and bandwidth have been continuously improved with the development of the times.

The emergence of 5G is due to the continuous growth of mobile data demand. More and more devices are connected to the mobile network. At present, 25G optical module is widely used in 5G forward base station.

25G optical modules, using SFP28 package type, LC connector, according to different standards, divided into 25GBase-SR, 25GBase-LR, 25GBASE-ER, etc. Next ETU-LINK will introduce several commonly used 25G optical modules.

1. 25GBase-SR optical module, mainly used for short-distance transmission, up to 100M transmission, the center wavelength is 850nm, dual LC connector.

2. 25GBase-LR optical module, mainly used for short- and medium-distance transmission, supports 10KM transmission distance, the center wavelength is 1310nm, dual LC connector.

3. 25GBASE-ER optical module, mainly used for medium and long distance transmission, supports 40KM transmission distance, center wavelength is 1310nm, dual LC connector.

4. 25G BIDI SFP28 single-fiber bidirectional optical module, mainly used for short- and medium-distance transmission, supports 10KM transmission distance, the center wavelength is 1330/1270nm, full-duplex transceiver, maximum power consumption is less than 1.2W.

5. 25G CWDM SFP28 single-fiber optical module, mainly used for short- and medium-distance transmission, supports 10KM transmission distance, and the center wavelength is 1270-1370nm.

The above five 25G optical modules are mainly used in 5G base station forward transmission, data center and other fields. In the next few years, optical module technology industry will present the characteristics of high speed, large bandwidth, small size, low power consumption and so on.
