1. Short-Reach Multimode: 25G SFP28 SR
25G SFP28 conventional optical modules include SR, LR, and ER. The 25G SFP28 SR optical module is a 25G optical module with a working wavelength of 850nm. Its internal transmitter is a vertical cavity surface emitting laser. Therefore, it needs to be used with 50/125µm OM3/OM4 multimode fiber. The transmission distance is 70 meters when used with OM3 and 100 meters when used with OM4.
Applicable scenario: Short-distance interconnection within data center cabinets, server ToR switch direct connection, matched with OM4 high-bandwidth multimode patch cord; Low cost, no need for single-mode fiber wiring, the first choice for new cloud computing server rooms.
2. Medium/Long Single-Mode Duplex: 25G SFP28 LR & ER
25G SFP28 LR and 25G SFP28 ER are single-mode optical modules, which need to be used together with single-mode optical fiber patch cord OS2.
25G SFP28 LR adopts DFB laser, 1310nm wavelength, maximum 10km transmission, used for campus aggregation layer cross-building links and medium-distance 5G fronthaul;
25G SFP28 ER extends the link budget to 40km, suitable for suburban base station long-distance fiber interconnection and MAN edge node convergence.
3. Wavelength Division Multiplexing Color Modules: CWDM & DWDM SFP28
25G SFP28 color optical module includes CWDM SFP28 optical module, DWDM SFP28 optical module, and the working wavelength of 25G CWDM SFP28 optical module is 1271-1331nm. It is mainly used in the 5G fronthaul bearer network, and can be transmitted up to 10 kilometers through single-mode fiber OS2.
4. Single-Fiber Bidirectional: 25G SFP28 BiDi
25G BiDi SFP28 uses 1270nm/TX & 1330nm/RX wavelength pair, completes sending and receiving on only one single-mode fiber, cutting fiber usage by half. Must be used in paired TX/RX matching modules, supports up to 40km OS2 fiber transmission, the most cost-saving solution for sparse 5G base station deployment with limited fiber resources.
