Optical modules can be classified into single-fiber and dual-fiber according to the number of interfaces. Dual-fiber optical modules have two optical fiber interfaces, and single-fiber optical modules have only one optical fiber interface. In addition to the difference in optical fiber interfaces, the use of the two is also different. Therefore, ETU-LINK will introduce the precautions for the use of 10G SFP+ BIDI single-fiber optical modules below.

First, 10G single-fiber optical modules are used in pairs. The paired wavelengths of 10G SFP+ BD single-fiber optical modules are 1270/1330nm and 1490/1550nm. If the wavelength parameter of the optical module at the A end is TX1270nm/RX1330nm, then the wavelength of the B end must be TX1330nm/RX1270nm. The 10G SFP+ BIDI single-fiber optical module with a wavelength of 1270/1330nm supports a transmission distance of 10km, 20km, 40km, 60km, and 70km, while a 10G BIDI optical module with a wavelength of 1490/1550nm can support a transmission distance of 80km.

Second, the fiber type of the 10G SFP+ BIDI single-fiber optical module is single-mode, and the fiber interface is LC, so a single-mode OS2 fiber patch cord with a simplex LC interface is required. Compared with dual-fiber optical modules, the advantage of 10G BIDI optical modules is to save optical fibers, thereby reducing the cost of optical fiber wiring infrastructure and the space occupied by optical fibers.

Third, 10G BIDI optical modules are mainly used in long-distance transmission scenarios such as backbone networks and metropolitan area networks.

The overall wiring cost of the 10G SFP+ BIDI single-fiber optical module will be relatively lower than that of the dual-fiber optical module. Therefore, the 10G BIDI single-fiber optical module has become the preferred solution for backbone long-distance optical fiber transmission.
