Packaging type and advantages of 200G optical module

At present, 100G optical module has become the mainstream of the market, but the requirements for bandwidth, port density and system energy consumption are still increasing, which further promotes the technology to 200G, 400G or higher-speed systems. 200G/400G becomes the mainstream of the next generation data center, and the standard of 400G Ethernet is completed before that of 200G Ethernet. Today ETU-Link will introduce the 200G optical module.

200G QSFP-DD SR8 optical module:

The 200G QSFP-DD SR8 optical module is a high-performance optical module, which is used for short-distance multi lane data communication and interconnection applications. It integrates eight data channels in each direction with a bandwidth of 8x25.78125Gbps. Each channel operates at a rate of 25.78gbps and transmits 70m when used with OM3 fiber or 100m when used with OM4 fiber. The wavelength of these modules is 850nm multimode fiber system.

200G QSFP-DD PSM8 optical module:

The 200G QSFP-DD PSM8 optical module is a high-speed product of single-mode parallel technology. It meets the QSFP-DD MSA standard, with a transmission distance of up to 10km, and adopts a parallel 8-way, single way 25Gbps design.

The similarities between the two products belong to the optical module in the 200G data center solution, and both of them are packaged with QSFP-DD and can use 16 core MTP/MPO.

Advantages of 200G QSFP-DD:

The advantage of QSFP-DD is that the 1U panel can achieve a density of 36 * 200G/400G, and it is compatible with the qsfp forward and backward, compatible with the existing QSFP28 optical module and AOC/DAC high-speed cable.

The main difference is that 200G QSFP-DD PSM8 adopts 8-way 1310nm single-mode fiber parallel scheme, with transmission distance up to 10km; while 200G QSFP-DD SR8 adopts multi-mode fiber parallel scheme, with transmission distance up to 100m on OM4 fiber chain.

The small auto pluggable double density package optical module of sfp-dd can double the bandwidth of SFP28 or SFP56 (25G/50G), support higher rate (50G/100G) and maintain backward compatibility of SFP28 or SFP56. QSFP-DD four channel small pluggable double density package optical module, defined by QSFP-DD MSA group, double the density of QSFP28 or QSFP56, eight channels, each channel speed up to 25G or 50G, so it supports 200G or 400G optical transmission.

SFP-DD QSFP28 compared with QSFP-DD:

Another predictable trend in the data center optical interconnection market is to phase out the low-speed optical modules of the core network and data center, with the main transformation from 10G to 40G and higher 100G and 200G. The new development of 100G optical devices paves the way for 200G/400G optical devices. As a professional optical module manufacturer, ETU-Link is also developing high-speed products. In general, the optical module market is moving towards higher speed, lower power consumption and smaller shape or size.
