Type introduction of 2.5G SFP gigabit optical module

  • March 04. 2021

The 2.5G optical module adopts the SFP package form. Compared with the 1.25G SFP optical module, it has a higher speed. It conforms to the SFP MSA and synchronous optical network (SONET OC-48/SDH STM-16) standards, and has DDM Features. Below, ETU-LINK will list the 2.5G SFP Gigabit optical modules.

At present, the 2.5G optical modules supplied by ETU-LINK are divided into three types: single fiber, dual fiber, and CWDM. Among them, the transmission range of 2.5G SFP single fiber optical module is 10km-120km, and the transmission range of 2.5G SFP dual fiber optical module The transmission range is 300m-120km, and the transmission range of 2.5G SFP CWDM optical modules is 2km-120km.

The 2.5G optical module has a wide transmission distance range, which can almost cover the needs of application scenarios such as metropolitan area networks, local area networks, wide area networks, campus networks, and small and medium data centers.

The 2.5G SFP Gigabit optical module is divided into two parts: transmitting and receiving. The transmitting part is composed of an IC driver integrated circuit with APC control circuit and DFB-LD. This integrated circuit receives LVPECL logic level signals and provides bias for LD Set and modulate the current, the APC loop generates the backlight current according to the size of the LD emission light power, realizes the automatic control function of the emission light power and the integrated circuit has the emission shutdown function.

The receiving part includes APD, TIA components and limiting amplification chip. The limiting amplifier outputs CML logic level signals and has a signal warning LOS function.

The 2.5G electrical modulation signal is input to the transmitting part of the optical module through the TD differential data input pin, and the modulated optical signal data is generated through the Laser Driver inside the module, and transmitted through the optical fiber. When the optical signal arrives at the data receiving end, the optical signal is converted into a modulated electrical signal through the receiving part of the optical module and amplified as a whole, and then output through the Rx differential data pin of the module, thereby realizing long-distance transmission of data through optical fiber.

Generally, the wavelength of the multimode optical module is 850nm, and the 2.5G multimode optical module can be equipped with OM2 patch cords, and the transmission distance can reach up to 500m. The wavelengths of single-mode optical modules are 1310, 1490, 1550nm, etc., 2.5G single-mode optical modules can be matched with OS2 single-mode patch cords, and the transmission distance can reach up to 120km. 2.5G single-fiber optical modules are often used in long-distance transmission scenarios, use with OS2 patch cords.
