What are 10G SFP+ CPRI optical modules?

CPRI is the abbreviation of Common Public Radio Interface, a standardized communication protocol widely adopted in mobile communication base stations. CPRI plays the role of transmitting baseband I / Q signals to radio units in traditional BS (base station). CPRI has efficient and flexible I / Q data interfaces for various standards, such as GSM, WCDMA, LTE, etc.


Unlike the data center, the CPRI optical module used in the base station has a constant temperature environment, and its working environment has a large temperature difference all year round. For example, in winter in the north, the temperature is sometimes minus 30 . In such a working environment, the commercial optical module (0 - 70 ) obviously can not work normally, Therefore, the working temperature of CPRI optical modules is industrial grade (- 40 - 85 ).


This article will focus on the 10G SFP+ CPRI optical module, a core component widely used in 4G/5G mobile base station fronthaul networks, covering its definition, core parameters, product types, application scenarios, deployment advantages, and selection guidelines, to provide a comprehensive reference for base station construction and optical module selection.

10G SFP+ dual fiber optical module

The 10G SFP+ dual fiber optical module of ETU-LINK has a maximum speed of 10Gbps, complies with SFP + MSA, 10G Ethernet and 10g CPRI standards, and the transmission distance through OS2 single-mode optical fiber can be up to 80km.

This module adopts 1310nm/1550nm conventional wavelength, DFB laser transmitter and PIN/APD receiver, with stable performance and low cost. It is suitable for point-to-point short-to-medium distance fronthaul links (10km–80km) in conventional base stations, and is the most widely deployed conventional model in 4G base station construction. It supports hot-plugging, convenient for later network expansion and equipment replacement, reducing maintenance difficulty and cost.


10G SFP+ CWDM optical module

The 10g CPRI CWDM SFP + series optical module of ETU-LINK has 8 optional wavelengths (1470nm-1610nm, with an interval of 20nm). It is widely used in the forward transmission network of 10G CPRI mobile base station communication. At the same time, it is compatible with 10G Ethernet, and the transmission distance through single-mode optical fiber can reach 40km.

CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology enables multiple services to share one optical fiber, greatly saving optical fiber resources, especially suitable for scenes with tight optical fiber resources in urban dense base stations and C-RAN centralized deployment. 8 optional wavelengths can meet the access of multiple base station signals, improve optical fiber utilization, reduce network construction cost, and have strong anti-interference ability, suitable for medium-distance fronthaul transmission of 10km–40km.


The 10g CPRI DWDM SFP + series optical module of ETU-LINK is widely used in the front transmission network of 10G CPRI mobile base station communication. At the same time, it is compatible with 10G Ethernet, and the transmission distance through single-mode optical fiber can reach 80km.

DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical modules have higher wavelength density and larger transmission capacity, supporting more wavelength channels and longer transmission distance. They are mainly used in long-distance fronthaul links (40km–80km) such as suburban base stations, remote mountainous areas, and backbone fronthaul networks, meeting the high-bandwidth and long-distance transmission needs of 5G base station fronthaul. With excellent dispersion tolerance and link budget, they ensure the stability and integrity of high-speed signals in long-distance transmission.

10G SFP+ CPRI optical module is used for the base station. The base station can be divided into two modules: RRU for transmitting signals and BBU for processing signals. RRU is hung on the tower and BBU is in the machine room under the tower. The two are connected by optical fiber. In 2 / 3 / 4G network, insert 10G Optical module into CPRI interface, and then connect RRU and BBU equipment with optical fiber patch cord.
