What are the interfaces of the 40G QSFP+ optical module?

Interface specification for 40G QSFP+ optical module


40G LR4 QSFP+ optical module conforms to the 802.3ba (40GBASE-LR4) standard. It can connect LC optical connector, the maximum transmission distance can reach 10km when using with single-mode optical fiber.


40G SR4 QSFP+ optical module conforms to the D3.2 (40GBASE-SR4) standard, can connect the MPO/MTP connector to achieve 40G transmission applications. The transmission distance is 100m when using with the multimode OM3 patch cord, and 150m when using with the OM4 patch cord.


Application of 40G QSFP+ optical module

There are many types of 40G QSFP+ optical modules, including QSFP-40G-SR4, QSFP-40G-LR4, 40G LR4 PSM and so on. Below will introduce the application of them. 

40G SR4 QSFP+: It is mainly used to realize connection between network devices in data center, which is suitable for short-distance transmission. Data center is often used to connect Ethernet switch with OM3/OM4 ribbon optical cable. It is often used to connect the Ethernet switch with the OM3/OM4 ribbon cable in data center.

40G LR4 QSFP+: It is suitable for long-distance transmission. Only need two single mode fibers, with higher cost performance.

40G LR4 PSM: For long-distance transmission, need eight single mode fibers, with higher port density and a lot of cost savings.
