ETU-LINK 40G Optical Module: A Core Solution for High-Speed Interconnection Covering All Scenarios

Driven by the demands of cross-domain disaster recovery in cloud computing, 5G backbone network transmission, and wide-area data interconnection, 40G optical modules need to balance short-distance high density with long-distance breakthroughs. ETU-LINK has expanded to include an 80km ultra-long-distance model, forming a full-distance coverage matrix ranging from 100 meters to 80 kilometers. With multiple technical paths to adapt to various scenarios, it has become the preferred solution for cross-city interconnection of data centers and 5G bearer networks.



. Product Matrix: Comprehensive Technology Layout

ETU-LINK 40G optical module uses QSFP+ packaging as its core, providing layered coverage for multiple scenarios:


(1). Short-Range Multimode Series: Suitable for short-distance interconnection in data centers, employing 850nm VCSEL technology and MPO interface. The basic 40G QSFP+ SR4 100m MPO module transmits over 100-150 meters (power consumption ≤1.4W), meeting the needs of rack-mounted connections; the extended model transmits over 300-400 meters (power consumption 1.5W), suitable for interconnection between the access layer and aggregation layer, forming a 100-400 meter coverage gradient.

(2). Mid-to-Long-Distance Single-Mode Series: Two adaptation solutions are provided for interconnection within parks and regions. The PSM4 solution (40G QSFP+ PSM4) uses mainstream single-mode wavelengths and multi-channel DFB lasers, paired with MPO multi-core optical ports, to transmit multiple 10G signals in parallel with a bandwidth of 40G. It is suitable for short-distance, high-density interconnection between buildings and regions within parks, reducing interface and cabling complexity. The CWDM solution includes multiple models, using CWDM standard wavelength combinations and dual LC interfaces, to transmit multiple signals with a single fiber, adapting to cross-regional and multi-node distributed interconnection within parks, balancing transmission range and deployment flexibility.


(3). 80km Ultra-Long Range Series: Introducing the 40G QSFP+ ZR4 80km single-mode module, employing a 1310nm EML laser and APD receiver , eliminating the need for traditional EDFA amplification equipment. Dual LC interfaces paired with single-mode fiber enable 80km transmission. 80km transmission is achieved without requiring additional ports or enabling FEC mode. Power consumption ≤5W, supports commercial-grade temperature range (0°C-70°C), hot-swapping, and digital diagnostics, adaptable to wide-area environments. Eliminating the EDFA equipment reduces costs, and the elimination of FEC mode lowers power consumption.


(4). Common Configuration: The entire series complies with IEEE 802.3ba and QSFP+ MSA specifications and supports digital diagnostics; commercial-grade temperature range 0°C-70°C (some can be customized to industrial grade); long-distance / ultra-long-distance power consumption ≤5W.



. Technical Advantages: Balancing Efficiency and Stability


(1). Cost-Performance Balance: short-range multimode VCSEL technology reduces costs; medium and long-range CWDM and PSM4 are used to avoid high costs; the 80km model optimizes EDFA integration, with costs lower than traditional 100G long-range modules.


(2). Full-Scene Compatibility: Through testing with multiple brands of equipment, the 80km model seamlessly connects to 5G backbone networks and data center core equipment; the QSFP+ packaged single port carries 4 10G signals, and supports "40G→4×10G" splitting at short distances, facilitating smooth network upgrades.


(3). Signal Stability: The 80km model uses EDFA optical amplification and dispersion compensation (bit error rate <1×10⁻¹²); medium and long distances rely on CWDM wavelength isolation and PSM4 synchronous transmission to ensure low latency; short distances are optimized with circuitry to suppress dispersion, and the entire series meets the needs of real-time services.

(1). Data Center Cross-domain Interconnection: 100-400 meter modules are responsible for interconnection within the computer room, 2-40 km modules support interconnection within the same city's campuses, and 80 km modules enable cross- city disaster recovery scheduling to ensure business continuity.


(2). 5G Transport Network: 80km module is adapted for inter-county and inter-city transmission of 5G backbone network and supports data backhaul; 2-40km is used for metropolitan area bearer network, and short-range module is adapted for connection in base station equipment room.


(3). Enterprise and Industry Applications: Large groups use the 80km module to connect their headquarters with remote data centers, supporting high-definition conferencing and distributed ERP; the energy and transportation industries use it to build cross-regional monitoring links, adapting to outdoor environments.
